Google consent mode and IAB TCF

The consent state is in place before your first Google tag runs

Okito shows your banner, gives Google tags a consent default before they run, and sends each visitor's choice as soon as it is made. The setup wizard turns it on for you.

Advanced consent mode and IAB TCF are included from the Standard plan. On Free and Beginner, basic consent mode applies: Google tags wait for the visitor's consent. See plans

What Okito handles for your Google tags

Okito sets the consent mode default and update commands for you. Consent mode itself does not show a banner, so Okito provides that too.

  • Advanced by default, basic one setting away

Advanced: tags load with the denied default and adjust to the choice. Basic: tags stay blocked until the visitor consents.

  • Defaults by region

Regions where your banner asks first start denied. Other visitors start granted by default; you can change that and, from the Beginner plan, hide the banner there. With the snippet, the WordPress plugin and the Shopify app, a visitor whose browser sends Global Privacy Control starts denied; with the GTM template, the Okito script sends a denied update when it loads.

    Where consent is not required

  • Returning visitors

A stored choice from the opt-in banner is applied right after the default, before any Google tag, with the consent mode snippet, the WordPress plugin and the Shopify app.

  • IAB TCF v2.4

Okito is an IAB Europe registered CMP, ID 508. You can also let Google tags read ad consent from the TC string with enableAdvertiserConsentMode.

  • A banner text for consent mode

The template states the purpose, links to business.safety.google/privacy and keeps Accept All. Apply it with one click in Banner Builder or the Shopify app.

Four steps to a green check

  1. 1

Create your account or sign in

New customers add their details and choose a plan, then land in the wizard.

  2. 2

    Run the setup wizard

Keep “Enable Google Consent Mode” selected and choose advanced or basic. The banner template is applied for you.

  3. 3

    Install the banner

Use the snippet, the GTM template, the WordPress plugin or the Shopify app.

  4. 4

    Check the result

Open your site with ?okito_debug=1 and look for the green box.

Advanced consent mode and IAB TCF are included from the Standard plan. On Free and Beginner, basic consent mode applies: Google tags wait for the visitor's consent.

See whether the order is right

Add this to the address of any page of your site. A box at the bottom left shows the result.

?okito_debug=1

  • When a tag runs too early, the box names it. First check whether it is served through Google tag gateway, then follow the matching steps.
  • Every cookie scan also checks the pages it opens. A scan you start or a scheduled scan notifies you in the app and by email when it finds gaps.
