What is Google Consent Mode v2?

Google Consent Mode v2 is the updated version of Consent Mode that adds two advertising-related consent signals: ad_user_data and ad_personalization.

For common Google Ads and Analytics implementations, the key signals include:

  • ad_storage

  • analytics_storage

  • ad_user_data

  • ad_personalization

Google introduced the additional v2 parameters in November 2023. The website first collects the visitor’s choice, then Google Consent Mode v2 communicates the corresponding states to supported tags.

Consent Mode v2 does not make a website compliant by itself; the underlying consent mechanism still has to meet the applicable rules.
