How CMPs detect and block hidden trackers?

Consent Management Platforms (CMPs) help control tracking technologies that may run in the background without being immediately visible to users.

CMPs usually manage this process in four stages:

  • Tracker discovery: The website is scanned for cookies, scripts, pixels, embedded services and third-party connections.

  • Purpose identification: Detected technologies are grouped according to what they do, such as analytics, advertising, personalization or essential website functions.

  • Consent control: Technologies that require permission are held back until the user makes a valid consent choice.

  • Ongoing checks: Repeated scans can identify newly added tools, scripts or tracking services after website updates.

This allows a website to apply the user’s preferences before optional tracking begins.

CMPs reduce the risk of trackers operating outside the selected consent settings, but correct configuration and regular monitoring are still necessary to keep the setup accurate over time.
