When did the CPRA go into effect?

California voters approved the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) on November 3, 2020. Its amendments to the CCPA went into effect on January 1, 2023.

The CPRA did not create a separate privacy law. Instead, it amended and expanded the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) by adding new consumer rights and additional obligations for businesses.

These changes included the right to correct inaccurate personal information, the right to limit certain uses and disclosures of sensitive personal information, and expanded opt-out rights covering the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
