Does my app need a privacy policy?

If you publish on Apple’s App Store or Google Play, yes: both require a privacy policy, including for apps that do not collect personal data. This platform requirement is separate from obligations under privacy laws. Apple’s review guidelines and Google Play’s User Data policy explain their requirements.

Your policy should describe data handled by the app and integrated services, including analytics, advertising, crash reporting, and account tools. Explain relevant collection, purposes, sharing, retention, deletion, and user choices. A privacy policy template can help structure this information, but it should be adapted to your app’s actual practices.

Before stating that no information is collected, check third-party SDK data collection and backend processing. Make the policy accessible within the app and keep it consistent with your store disclosures. A privacy policy does not replace permissions or consent where required.
