Google Consent Mode
Do I need Google Consent Mode v2?
You need Google Consent Mode v2 when your use of Google measurement and advertising tags falls within Google’s consent-signal requirements. Whether it applies depends mainly on where your visitors are located and how Google services are used.
Consent Mode v2 is particularly relevant when:
You use Google Ads for measurement, personalized advertising, or remarketing involving visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA).
You use Google Analytics data with advertising products, such as using Analytics audiences or conversions in Google Ads.
Your website serves visitors in the EEA, even if your business is located outside the EEA.
See Google’s consent requirements for EEA traffic for the relevant use cases.
If you use GA4 only for standalone analytics, distinguish that setup from using Analytics data with advertising products. You should still assess Google’s applicable consent guidance and the legal requirements that apply to your visitors.
Google’s product requirements and legal consent obligations are separate. Consent Mode v2 is a technical mechanism for communicating consent choices to Google. It does not obtain legally valid consent or establish GDPR compliance on its own. Enabling Consent Mode does not automatically satisfy GDPR, ePrivacy, or KVKK obligations.
If your website uses no Google measurement or advertising tags, Google Consent Mode is generally unnecessary. Consent requirements for other cookies or tracking technologies may still apply.
