What does GDPR stand for?

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation, the European Union’s law governing the processing of personal data. It sets requirements for how organisations collect, use, store and share information about identifiable individuals, including names, email addresses and online identifiers such as IP addresses.

The regulation has applied since 25 May 2018. Its purpose is to protect individuals’ data protection rights and establish consistent rules for organisations handling personal data across the EU/EEA. These rights allow people to request access to their information, have inaccurate details corrected and, where the legal conditions are met, ask for their data to be deleted.
